The Concept
- To add a readable RFID tag to a piece of pipe that can withstand the tough environment of being run into an oil or gas well
- To do it in a reasonably priced concept that does not affect the integrity of the pipe
- Can be either only a protector of the tag or enhanced to protect the tube as well
Soft Band
Enhanced Softbands which provide both wear protection to the pipe as well as a protector for a RFID tag.
The RFID Tag
Tag applied to the surface of the pipe over a bond coating, prior to injection molding the band over top
Tracking Logic
- New joint tagged and inspected (start of its history)
- Joint scanned leaving yard and arrival on location utilizing GPS location
- Joint scanned running into the hole and tripping back out of the hole, knowing its position in the string
- Visual sorting of string on location using the softband as a guide for running on subsequent runs prior to return to inspection yard
- Scanned leaving the location and once received back in the yard
- Scanned while running through inspection
- If a new band is required transfer of history to the new tag is completed and no history is lost
- Customer will have access to software for tracking of number of joints transferred to location and run in the hole with complete visibility to each joint history
- Billing is automated from Software to customer
